Here are some common question that we get about the aging process.
Q: What do we need to know in our 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond?
Dr. Chan: Well that depends a lot on how you are aging and how you are programmed to age (your genetics). Let me generalize a bit on what I see and do in my practice.
Age 20 to 30′s = PREVENTION.
This includes developing an at home skin care regimen (like a moisturizer with sun protection), facials and microdermabrasion, and Botox to prevent the early onset of wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes. Of course avoid smoking.
Age 40 to 50 = REJUVENATION.
This includes skin rejuvenation with laser peels (to correct fine lines) and dermal fillers (to correct deeper lines on the face). Many also start to consider surgical options for hereditary eyelid changes in the upper and lower lids (blepharoplasty).
Age 50-70s = RESTORATION.
This includes procedures that get you back to looking the way you feel. Lonver lasting procedures like facelifts and neck contouring, as well as browlifting can make a significant change in the way our skin starts to sag over the frame of the face. Note that some patients may benefit from lifting in their 40′s on a case by case basis related to the amount of sagging skin and the desire to use lifting as a means of prevention.
